Feeling fall

 I am slowly letting go of my summer house and  all its leisurely pursuits including art.  This piece found a new  home in Montreal.  I was sad to see it go.  It reminds me of a bird in flight in fall. Margaret Ryall 2016 Composition in Time #22  I had a holiday in New York that left me wanting more of those leisurely pursuits on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, and when I came home fall was suddenly in the air. Before I could even make a list  of all the things that needed doing in my St. John's house, Thanksgiving was looming and I had to add a little fall colour. Thankfully nature helped outside.  I had a lovely display of colour in my planter and could even visually "claim" the maple tree across the street.  My one proactive  fall decor effort before my trip was a flop. My pot of fall flowers had to be laid to rest when I got back.  A frantic trip to the storage room yielded a  generous supply  of fake fall foliage...

No Chill Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

INGREDIENTS 1/2   cup   butter   melted 1/2   cup   packed brown sugar   light or dark 1/3   cup   white sugar 1   large egg 1/2   tablespoon   vanilla 1 1/2-1 2/3   cup   all purpose flour   use more if needed see post for details 1/2   teaspoon   baking soda 1/4- 1/2   teaspoon   salt 2/3   cup   chocolate chips INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl cream the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar for 1-2 minutes. You can use a hand mixer or a stand mixer for this job. Add in the egg and vanilla. Mix just until the egg is combined. Add in the flour, baking soda and salt. Mix just until combined. The dough should be thick and dry. It should be sticking to your hands. Add in just enough flour to achieve this. If it sticks just slightly to your fingers that is ok, just not making a mess all over your hands when you roll the dough into cookie balls. Mix in the ...

Designing Home Blog 2014

 I just wrote my 200th post on Designing Home and I've had a very laid back Christmas with lots of time to consider what is working on my  blog and what I might like to add, change, or improve.  Here are the results of my mini conference with self: Practical posts for  homeowners  I usually write about  topics that I think  average homeowners are interested in as they go about refreshing  or designing new spaces.  I will still continue  to address these topics  because I can see from my stats that these are my most read posts especially any that address designing smaller spaces. Aren't blog stats a wonderful thing? I also know that my  largest blog readership is in United States.  Hey, where are the Canadians?
